The statue here stands in a church square in Verona and honors Paolo Veronese, the Renaissance painter born in the city in 1528. Veronese, whose full name was Paolo Caliari, became known for large, luminous canvases filled with crowds, architecture and rich color, and he worked for patrons in Venice as well as in Verona. The caption card records no date, so it is hard to say when the photograph was taken, but the monument reflects a long Italian habit of honoring local artists in public spaces.
