Looking down this Potsdam street, the eye is drawn to the dome of St. Nikolaikirche, the Protestant church that anchors the city's Old Market. The photograph is undated in its record, with a possible date of 1942, so it likely captures the town in the early years of the Second World War, when Potsdam was still a royal residence city known for its Prussian-era palaces and churches.
