The title names Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery Schuyler, but the November 10, 1922 date comes from unverified notes added by the National Photo Company, so treat it with caution. Montgomery Schuyler was a prominent American architecture critic who died in 1914, which suggests the title or date may not match the sitters. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C. studio whose glass negatives were later donated to the Library of Congress, and this plate came in as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Streaks and blemishes on its surface reflect the natural deterioration of the original coatings over time.
