Made around 1922 by the National Photo Company, a commercial studio in Washington, D.C., this glass negative carries the name Mrs. Grafton Minot, though that title comes from the studio's own notes and has not been independently confirmed. The company produced a large body of portraits and views for the capital, and this plate came to the Library of Congress as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. The streaks and blemishes visible on the plate are typical of glass negatives, where the original coating broke down naturally over time.
