Randolph and State streets in the Loop are named on this card, where the Masonic Temple rose to what the caption calls a "Great Sky Scraper" of 265 feet. Designed by the firm of Burnham and Root and completed in 1892, the building was among the tallest in downtown Chicago, a showpiece of the city's skyscraper boom after the Great Fire of 1871. This stereograph, copyrighted in 1909 by E.W. Kelley, belonged to the stereo-viewer trade, which brought views like this into parlors across the country. The temple was demolished in 1939, so the card preserves a streetscape that no longer exists.
