This view shows the Old Masonic Temple at the corner of 9th and F Streets Northwest in Washington, D.C. The print is by Underwood & Underwood, a firm that produced large numbers of city views and stereographs for commercial circulation in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The caption card gives no date, and its attributions are unverified, so the year of the exposure remains uncertain. Masonic halls like this one were central gathering places for lodge meetings, ceremonies and civic events in American cities of the period.
