Hyannis grew into the commercial center of Cape Cod, and this 1939 bird's-eye view shows the village from an angled, elevated vantage that captures its streets, harbor, and rooftops together. Panoramic maps like this one let viewers see a town's layout as if from a low flight, with buildings drawn in profile rather than from straight above. After the railroad reached Hyannis in 1854, its role as a hub for travel and trade, including ferry service to the islands, expanded considerably. The map offers a useful snapshot of the village in the late 1930s, before postwar growth transformed much of the Cape.
