Falmouth sits at the southwestern corner of Cape Cod, and this bird's-eye view shows the village, its harbor and the surrounding shoreline as if seen from a height above the town. Panoramic maps like this were popular in the 1890s, when artists drew towns in perspective so that streets, church steeples and waterfront wharves could be read at a glance. By then Falmouth's economy mixed fishing and coastal trade with a growing summer business that the railroad had helped bring, and the map captures that blend of working harbor and resort town. Its value today lies in the detail of roads and building footprints, which record the community before much of the twentieth century's growth.
