Frank Wheeler Mondell represented Wyoming in Washington for much of his career, serving first as a territorial delegate and later as a congressman, and he became a prominent Republican leader in the House in the early 1920s. This portrait was made by Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm known for stereographs and studio portraits that reached a wide national audience in the early twentieth century. The caption card gives no date, so the sitting is best placed in the general period of Mondell's congressional years, when such images circulated widely as public-figure portraits. The identifying details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
