Titled *Be a trained nurse*, this poster asks women to train for a skilled career rather than simply buy bonds or conserve food. Its record places it in New York State and dates it to about 1917 or 1918, when the United States was drawing many nurses into military service and the Red Cross, while civilian hospitals struggled with staff shortages. Hospital training schools of the period gave women a route into paid, respected work, and posters like this one linked that opportunity to the war effort. Its subject headings on economic and industrial aspects suggest that the war changed women's education and employment at home as much as it affected the fighting overseas.
