The poster promotes *Hold Back the Dawn* (1941) and puts three stars at the center of its design: Charles Boyer, Olivia de Havilland, and Paulette Goddard. Mitchell Leisen directed the film, which follows a European migrant stranded at a hotel on the Mexican border while he waits for a chance to enter the United States under restrictive immigration quotas. Its mix of romance and a serious look at displacement on the eve of American entry into World War II helps explain why it drew strong attention and several Academy Award nominations. The poster's undated printing, c1941, places it within the film's release run.
