A cowboy and his horse have roped a cow and hauled it to the ground, the action the title "Thrown!" describes in this Kansas scene. Keystone View Company issued the picture as a stereograph, a card holding two nearly identical photographs that a viewer's stereoscope merged into one image with depth, a format hugely popular in American parlors in the early twentieth century. The catalog tags point to cattle branding, when a roped animal was thrown so it could be marked, and the record dates the card to about 1919, though that date is unverified and should be read loosely.
