A water seller, or *aguador*, in Guanajuato, the silver-mining city in central Mexico, is the subject of this view. Such vendors carried water to households and businesses that lacked a direct supply, drawing it from fountains and wells and hauling it through the town's streets. The negative is attributed to the American photographer William Henry Jackson, whose Mexican views were listed in a catalog published in 1898, and it later became part of the Detroit Publishing Company's collection of travel scenes.
