The Hercules cotton mill in Querétaro, Mexico, is the subject here, and the record links the works to Cayetano Rubio. The negative is a large glass plate, 5 by 8 inches, made between about 1880 and 1897 and attributed to photographer William Henry Jackson on the basis of the 1898 *catalog of the W.H. Jackson Views*. In these decades, Mexico's textile industry expanded rapidly under the Porfiriato, and Querétaro was one of its growing centers for spinning and weaving. Photographs like this one document the scale of mill buildings and the industrial infrastructure that supported them, which makes them useful to historians of Mexican manufacturing.
