An engraved stock certificate issued by the Centennial Board of Finance offers a rare look at how the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia was financed. The fair, held in Fairmount Park to mark the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, relied in part on capital stock sold to private investors, alongside public and federal support. Certificates like this one were the paper evidence of that investment, and their ornate engraved designs were meant to inspire confidence in a venture on a very large scale. The record notes that the certificate was illustrated in Norton's *Illustrated Historical Register*, which helped preserve it for later readers. The issue date is not recorded on the caption card.
