Taken from behind the Krupp display at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, this stereograph shows the rear of a large wheeled cannon. The Essen firm, which traces its origins to Friedrich Krupp, brought steel artillery to the fair that year, and its guns drew steady attention from visitors and military observers. The exhibit stood in Machinery Hall, the enormous iron-and-glass building in Fairmount Park that showcased the industrial age. Stereo views like this one let viewers feel they were walking the grounds themselves.
