Machinery Hall's central transept appears here in September 1875, months before the building was finished, with its iron framing and bare structure still exposed. The hall was one of the largest buildings in Fairmount Park for the Centennial Exhibition, which Philadelphia opened in 1876 to mark a century since the Declaration of Independence. The print was made by the Centennial Photo Co., and it offers a view of the construction work behind the fair's machinery displays. The caption card also lists Thailand as a subject, a connection the record does not confirm.
