Construction of the Art Gallery in Fairmount Park, photographed in September 1875, shows the building that would later become Memorial Hall while the grounds for the Centennial Exhibition were still taking shape. The Centennial Photographic Company, which documented the fair's buildings and grounds, produced the sepia print. Memorial Hall, designed by architect Hermann J. Schwarzmann, was one of the few structures meant to outlast the 1876 exhibition, and it later housed a museum for children. The view records the work underway about eight months before the fair opened in May 1876.
