At forty inches wide, this gelatin silver print is a long panoramic group portrait of the Cleveland team in 1916, the year after the club took the name Indians. Its record notes that the second player from the left was spliced into the negative before printing, so a careful look at the lineup reveals a seam in the picture's construction. Panoramic team photographs like this were popular in the 1910s, when players, owners and fans wanted a keepsake of a season. The print was registered for copyright on April 27, 1916, under the Heiser Co. name, and the sitters are labeled on the image itself.
