A stereograph card titled "The Wedding," published in Dolgeville, a small village in upstate New York, by the Sterro-Photo Company around 1907. Its two nearly identical photographs were meant to be viewed through a hand-held stereoscope, which fused them into a single image with apparent depth. Stereo cards like this were produced in large numbers and sold door to door, by mail, and through local dealers, and they gave families a way to see staged domestic scenes and milestone events at home. The card's copyright notice names C.A. Richmond, and the number 1055 suggests it belonged to a numbered series. Marriage was a common subject for these cards, and the set reflects the period's taste for sentimental scenes of everyday life.
