A drawbridge in Tokyo and the foreign visitors who appear in the scene set this drawing apart. The catalog record places both subjects between 1850 and 1900, the decades after Japan opened its ports to Western traders and diplomats. The artist is listed as Isoda Koryūsai, who worked in Edo, the city now called Tokyo, from about 1764 to 1788. That span does not match the 1750 date on the record, so the dating is worth checking against the Library of Congress catalog. The drawing is part of the David Murray Collection of Japanese prints and drawings.
