This drawing is catalogued as a view of a drawbridge in Tokyo with foreign visitors, a subject that places it in the late Edo and early Meiji years. The record's dates do not agree, though. It gives 1750 as the date, while the artist, Isoda Koryūsai, is listed as active from 1764 to 1788, and his known work belongs to the later eighteenth century. Koryūsai was a leading ukiyo-e printmaker and painter, best known for prints of women and scenes of daily life. Because the drawing is catalogued as part of the David Murray Collection at the Library of Congress, its attribution and date are worth checking against the catalog record before drawing firm conclusions.
