This view shows a bakery set up at a camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, around 1913, the year the town hosted the fiftieth-anniversary reunion of the battle's veterans. That gathering, often called the Blue and Gray reunion, brought thousands of aging Union and Confederate men to the old battlefield, and feeding them meant organizing field kitchens and bakeries on a large scale. The photograph was copyrighted by W.H. Tipton, a local photographer who documented the town and battlefield in these years, so it offers a record of how the commemoration was supplied and run.
