This aerial view shows McMillan Reservoir, an open-water storage basin in Northwest Washington, D.C., photographed from above in the 1920s. The reservoir was part of the city's water supply, holding treated water before it reached homes and businesses, and it was named for Senator James McMillan, who led the Senate Park Commission whose 1901 plan reshaped the capital's parks and public spaces. From above, the geometry of the basin and its surrounding grounds stands out, showing how engineers laid out large civic infrastructure in the city during this period.
