This postcard shows the steamer *City of Cleveland*, a passenger vessel that ran between Detroit and Cleveland, the two cities it was named for. The Detroit Publishing Co. issued the card around 1912 using its Phostint process, a photolithographic method that laid soft color over a photographic image to give the scene a tinted, painterly finish. Cards like this were sold to travelers and mailed as souvenirs, and today they offer a glimpse of the Great Lakes steamboat era, when overnight lake steamers were a popular way to travel between cities.
