Cy Falkenberg is the pitcher named here, shown with the Cleveland American League club at the Polo Grounds in New York, the big ballpark where the Giants played and where the American League team made its visits in the early 1910s. The date of 1913 comes from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research rather than from the original caption, which records only his name and team. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, a news photography archive whose pictures were sent out to newspapers, so it captures the working press side of the game as much as the players themselves.
