A wall of paintings hangs in the Columbus room at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, a gallery set aside for the fair's commemoration of Christopher Columbus. The exposition was held in Jackson Park to mark the 400th anniversary of his 1492 voyage, and its exhibition halls drew art from across the world. Souvenir cards like this one were sold to visitors who wanted a keepsake of the fair's grand buildings and displays. The card was issued by the Souvenir Photograph Company of Chicago, so it reflects the commercial photography that documented the fair for the public.
