The only name this glass negative offers is Pete Pellison, and the record does not say who he was or what occasion brought him before the camera. The plate dates from about 1924 and comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that produced a large volume of portraits and news pictures in the early twentieth century. Glass negatives like this one often developed clouding and streaks as their coatings deteriorated, so the faint marks across the image are a physical record of the plate's age. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
