Taken on February 18, 1924, this glass negative records a meeting between Denby, likely Edwin Denby, then Secretary of the Navy, and a group of newspapermen. The record gives only the short title and date, so the occasion itself is not documented here. The timing is notable, because Denby's department was under scrutiny in the Teapot Dome oil leasing investigation, and he resigned that spring. The National Photo Company made many such plates in Washington, and they preserve how officials met the press during the period. The streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coatings.
