Its German title, *Bis zum letzten Hauch*, translates roughly as "To the Last Breath," a phrase that framed financial support as part of the war effort itself. This 1915 color lithograph, signed "Bernhard," pairs an eagle, the long-standing emblem of German power, with that appeal. Germany paid for much of its wartime spending through a series of Kriegsanleihen, or war loans, and posters like this one were a major way the government urged citizens to subscribe. The Library of Congress holds the print, which came from the former Rehse-Archiv collection.
