Few posters from wartime Germany advertise furniture, which makes this 1915 color lithograph stand out among the war subjects on this board. Its German title, roughly "Household goods also on installment," promotes Hausrat, a Berlin society offering home furnishings on deferred payment. The offer answered a real strain of the period, as wartime shortages and rising prices made large purchases hard for many families. The poster, signed only "Bernhard," shows how commercial appeals adapted to a country organized around the war effort.
