This poster advertises a spring horse show at Durland's Academy in New York, scheduled for April 29 to May 1, 1919, with proceeds going to the Motor Corps of America, a volunteer women's group that supported the war effort with motor transport. Though it was made in 1918, while the war was still under way, it promotes an event set for the coming peacetime spring, which is why its subject is listed under "Peace." The artist, Howard Chandler Christy, was one of the best-known American illustrators of his day, famous for his polished, glamorous portraits of women. The poster was also sponsored by the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation.
