Winter sport is the subject here, with the slogan "They like winter in New York State" pitching the state's snow and slopes to visitors. The poster was produced by the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, the New Deal program that employed artists during the Depression, and it was commissioned by the state's Conservation Department to promote tourism. Silkscreen let the WPA turn out bold, flat-color posters cheaply in large runs, so many of these designs were hung in public places and tourist offices. Its tagline, "The state that has everything," reflects the state's effort to market its mountains and parks as year-round destinations.
