A man pulls a plow himself in this scene, with one boy following behind the blade and another nearby waving a stick, a reminder of how much farm work around 1900 depended on human muscle. Most farms of the period plowed by hand or with draft animals, and the picture's caption tags file it under plowing and farms. The print is credited to photographer William A. Miller, but the date and other details come from an old caption card and have not been verified. Its place on a tractor board is a useful contrast, since the machines that later replaced this kind of labor were still rare when it was made.
