The title sets this card apart: it shows a Russian peasant plowing leased fields with what the caption calls a primitive native plow, a simple wooden implement of the kind that remained common in the countryside. Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pennsylvania, issued many stereographs like this around 1915 for American parlors and classrooms, so the scene was meant to introduce farm life far away to viewers who may never have seen a field worked this way. Beside the tractors on this board, the card offers a clear contrast between hand-guided tools and the machines that would soon change farming.
