Few tractors on this board are shown doing the job they were built for quite like this one, hauling a disc harrow across an open field while workers keep pace beside it. The disc harrow broke up and leveled soil after plowing, and the tractor's arrival in American farming during the early twentieth century cut the number of horses and mules needed for such work. Pictures like this one recorded a turning point, when field preparation that had once taken teams of animals and many hands began to be done by a single machine.
