Friday, May 12th, was the appointed day for buying a lamp, according to this London poster, with the purchase supporting women's service in wartime. Printed by Hudson & Kearns Ltd. and dated to about 1916, it urges the public to help sell the lamps and gives 58 Victoria Street as the place to apply. Such sales were one way Britons raised money for war work, at a time when women were taking on growing roles in industry and auxiliary services as men went to the front.
