Rather than simply celebrating women workers, this 1915 poster doubles as a fundraising appeal, asking the public for £25,000 right away to fund rest-rooms, canteens and hostels for women in war industries. The name of the Young Women's Christian Association also appears in the text, linking the appeal to an existing women's charity. By 1915 many British factories had lost skilled men to the front, so women moved into machine work, including lathe operation, in growing numbers. The poster's slogan and its lathe imagery make that shift plain, while the funding request shows that caring for these new workers was itself a wartime concern.
