Few posters of the period address expectant mothers as directly as this one, which states that congenital syphilis can be prevented when mothers take adequate treatment. Produced as a silkscreen on board in 1936 under the Works Progress Administration, it is credited to Conrad Seiler, with the Federal theater Project in San Francisco listed as sponsor. Its subject tags point to prenatal care in New York State during the 1930s, when public health campaigns urged early testing and treatment to protect unborn babies from the disease.
