Chicago's industrial workforce is the focus of this 1936 poster, which argues that untreated syphilis threatens factory output and workers' livelihoods. Its tagline, "Don't lose your pay," frames treatment as a way to stay on the job rather than a matter of private shame. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, produced public health and public information posters during the Depression, and this one was printed in silkscreen, a method the program's poster unit used to make inexpensive, eye-catching multiples for display in workplaces and public buildings. The date stamped on the back, March 1940, shows that the sheet remained in circulation or storage years after it was first printed.
