Printed in Philadelphia around 1884 by J. Hoover, this color chromolithograph is titled *Summer in Ohio* and its record lists houses and boats among its subjects. Chromolithography was at its height in the 1880s, when inexpensive color prints of everyday and rural scenes were sold widely and hung in parlors and kitchens across the country. The copyright notice printed with the image shows that publishers protected such pictures as they were made in quantity for a mass market. Its pairing of homes and boats offers a glimpse of how summer leisure in Ohio was pictured for a national audience in the 1880s.
