A glass negative of the exterior of the Loews Palace theater, dated to about 1920, records the front of one of the movie houses that Loews was building in American cities in the years after World War I. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., made pictures like this for commercial and civic records, so the plate shows how a theater presented itself to the street. Faint streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of the original coating are visible on the 8 by 6 inch plate. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
