The Dixie Theater crowd is captured on a glass negative from the National Photo Company Collection, a body of work made by a commercial studio that documented American streets, buildings and public life in the early twentieth century. The title was supplied by the studio on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, so the scene should be read with that caveat in mind. Glass plates of this kind were a common way to record crowds gathering for films and live shows, and the surface wear noted on this one, including streaks and coating loss, is typical of plates that have aged for a century.
