Buffalo hosted the Pan-American Exposition from May to November 1901, a fair built around trade and industry across the Western Hemisphere. The grounds were known for their white buildings, their electric lighting, and the Electric Tower, which glowed at night. The fair ended in tragedy when President William McKinley was shot at the Temple of Music in early September, and he died days later. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its photochrom views, sold images like this one to travelers and collectors who wanted to remember the fair.
