A Governor General sentences Zorah to the mines of Siberia in this scene, the moment the poster's caption picks out from the play. Edwin Arden (1864–1918) was an American actor, and this 1899 color lithograph came from the Strobridge Litho Company of Cincinnati and New York, a firm that produced many theatrical posters for touring productions of the period. Exile to Siberia was a stock device of late nineteenth-century melodrama, and the image leans on that Russian setting, with its military figures and captive young woman, to draw audiences to the show.
