A night ride to save Mary, Queen of Scots, is the scene this 1906 poster highlights, which sets it apart from other posters for the same play. The production drew on the romance *When Knighthood Was in Flower* by Charles Major, which was in turn built on the legend of Dorothy Vernon, a Derbyshire heiress associated with Haddon Hall in England. The color lithograph was printed by the U.S. Lithograph Co. of Cincinnati and New York, and it shows how touring theatrical posters of the period used dramatic narrative scenes to draw audiences.
