The title "La Carreta" points to the two-wheeled oxcart, a common sight on farms and rural roads in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and other parts of the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, where it carried sugar cane, produce, and families. The caption card gives no date or sitter, so the print's exact origin is unclear. Still, the title suggests a rural, Hispanic Caribbean setting, and the cart itself became a lasting symbol of country life there. The name also echoes René Marqués's 1953 Puerto Rican play *La carreta*, about a rural family's move to the city, which may explain why the title stuck.
