The Green Dragon Inn stood in Boston's North End, and this print records it as it appeared in an 1893 issue of New England Magazine. The tavern was a well-known gathering place in the colonial era, when patriots such as Paul Revere and other members of the Sons of Liberty were said to meet there to plan resistance to British rule. By the late nineteenth century, many of Boston's old landmarks were being rediscovered and celebrated as links to the Revolution, so a picture like this reflects the period's growing interest in preserving the city's colonial past.
