A parked automobile and a storefront signed Moesta's give this street view its particular character, a pairing that reflects the shift from horse traffic to motor cars in the years around 1900 to 1915. The glass negative is one of the Detroit Publishing Company's plates, made by a firm that sent photographers across the country to document towns and scenery for sale as views to travelers and businesses. The cataloger, not the photographer, supplied the title, and the negative reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
