A boy blowing soap bubbles while a dog looks on gives this chromolithograph its title, *Childhood's Happy Hours*. Published in New York by Caldwell & Co. around 1873 or 1874, it credits Wilhelm Pister as the artist and carries a copyright in the name of W.E. Caldwell. Chromolithography used a separate stone for each color, which let publishers sell bright genre scenes like this one cheaply to middle-class households. Sentimental pictures of children at play were especially popular for parlors and nurseries in the 1870s.
